Little Lasse is a short story about a small, spirited boy who sneaks into the garden, crafts a fleet of pea-shell warships, and — after sneaking into a forbidden boat — drifts out to sea alone. While asleep on the waves, a dream-boy whisks him to the icy shores of Asia, the sun-scorched prairies of America, the spice-filled islands of Polynesia, and the lion-roamed deserts of Africa. At every shore, danger lurks just beyond the waterline, and Lasse must decide whether adventure is truly worth leaving home behind.
