Rise Up Music Project episodes

  • 1/5/26: “How Will You See When Your Sun Is Gone,” by Gordon Wright
Gordon Wright is a Chicago-area musician who will be sharing music on the 5th day of the month all year long. Long ago, he fronted an East Coast pop/rock band called Fooled By April. These days you can find him singing jazz in the Chicago Jazz Dads.
His first tune for the Rise Up Music project is a mournful singer-songwriter number that was inspired, he says, by jazz standards, but not for the reasons you might expect. Listen to find out why.

  • 1/2/26: “Nothing New,” by the songplayer.
Benjamin Goldenhour (the songplayer.) is serious about play, encouraged in chaos, and loves a good ol’ fashioned mistake; he has no idea what he is doing, but that has fortunately never been a hindrance. He lives in the woods somewhere outside Seattle with his novel-writing partner, rock-chewing mutt, and nap-dodging toddler. Listen for his new music on the second day of each month.
This month’s recording is a quiet celebration of satisfaction in the tumult of today’s existence.

  • 1/1/26: “Still,” by Cousin Wolf

Cousin Wolf is the indie-folk music project of Matt Halvorson, a musician, writer and ballplayer living with his family in the woods north of Seattle. He is sharing a new song on the first of every month this year, and his song for today is called “Still.” It is a spare, searching little tune with a bit of maybe unexpected oomph.
