All lyrics aside from the ever-present chorus were taken from overheard snippets of friends’ conversations during a Mardi Gras get-together. We then all grabbed instruments and improvised a song. It couldn’t’ve been done without the joyful-no-matter-how-reluctant participation of:
Tara on Flute, Nate on Baritone, Sarah on Keys, Davíd on Gong, Rachel on Snare and HiHat, Shannon on Tamborine, Simon on Bongos, Maya on Thundertube, Shawn + Carson + Jenna + Blake on other various percussion or just standing there being supercool. Last but not least, Graham on Recording/Notebookholding. It truly takes a village.
Matt Halvorson is a musician, writer, activist and father living in Seattle. His new song this week is about the power of connecting with a sense of purpose.
Brigitte Donahugh is a human who finds peace in writing music, growing food, and advocating for the rights of all beings. She is currently focused on studying equine-assisted learning in the UK and on understanding ways to make this an accessible form of therapy.
As she explores her own ancestral roots, Brigitte shares a brand new original song about examining our roots, our identity and our role in a culture so heavily filtered through white supremacy and colonialism.
Hey Ya’ll- I’m still sick and the germs have migrated to my throat and given me a very sore and very hoarse voice. Even though my voice is a little better today, in the spirit of self care and self preservation I decided not to strain and so I unfortunately do not have a new tune for you this week. However I do have a remix of an oldie, way old, (revolutionary war old for all you history nerds out there you’ll get the reference). This is a recording from 1.5 years ago when my son was just learning how to talk but oh could he really really sing. Can’t wait until we are really writing some good stuff together. Next week I’ll be back with the fire!
Peace,
Stacy E.
