The Thomas Fire is the fourth largest wildfire in California history, and it shows no signs of slowing down.  Firefighters and policy makers are accepting that this type of massively destructive wildfire might be the state's new norm.  Recreational pot becomes legal in California on January 1st.  But, it doesn't mean you can just walk right in and start doing business in the new year!  California has a ways to go on its legalized industry.  How did "The Simpsons" tv show get so good at predicting the future?!

Is the IRS ready for tax reform?  A massive restructuring of the tax system comes just months before tax season. Will the IRS, already hit hard by budget and staff cuts, be ready?  The train tragedy up north is highlighting the importance of Positive Train Control, which can basically override operators, to keep trains from going too fast or blowing through stop signals.
