Even with the shadow of captivity hanging over the people of Israel in the book of Hosea, and even though God had already revealed the sinful condition of His people, He still instructs Hosea to say to them once again, "Come home!" God is waiting; acknowledge your sin and come back to Him.

God says of His people in the closing part of Hosea 5:15, "In their affliction they will seek me early." The Bible teaches us that the goodness of God leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). That is the way it should always be. We should respond to the Lord because of His goodness to us. Here the Bible says that God must bring affliction on the people, and because of that affliction, they will seek the Lord.

Jesus confronted Peter after his denial, challenging him to fully commit to following Him without reservation. The warning God gives to Judah is the one we must heed. What happened to Israel could also happen to Judah and eventually it did. What has happened in the lives of many people who have fallen could also happen to us if we do not keep the Lord in His rightful place on a daily basis. This ought to cause us to fear the Lord, to love Him, serve Him, and to keep Him as the God of our lives.
