Welcome to RN's and Red Flags! This is our first episode where we discuss the The Staircase Murder. In 2001, Kathleen Peterson was found dead at the bottom of a staircase in her North Carolina home, while her husband, novelist Michael Peterson, claimed she had suffered a tragic fall. Investigators, however, believed the blood-soaked scene pointed to murder, uncovering secrets and suspicious similarities to another staircase death from Peterson’s past. The controversial case led to a highly publicized trial, a murder conviction, years of appeals, and ultimately an Alford plea—leaving one haunting question unanswered: Was Kathleen’s death a terrible accident or a carefully concealed murder?
