Today marks the start of New Zealand Fashion Week - 25 years since the first fashion week saw local designers on the runway. But it's been a rocky time for the industry, with lables like Wynn Hamlyn, Sylvester and Jimmy D among the well known designers closing down - that's had a knock on effect for local machinists and manufacturers. Caitlin Crisp, who founded her Auckland-based label in 2019, is headlining this year's Fashion Week. She spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

At least 5,000 people have been displaced by a powerful earthquake in Indonesia .. 53 people have have died. Rescuers are continuing to search for survivors after the shallow magnitude 7.7 quake, which struck the island of Flores shortly before 5am local time on Saturday. More than 900 homes and hundreds of other buildings have been severely damaged by the tremor and there have been 341 aftershocks. Jakarta-based correspondent Michael Neilson spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

A transport advocate says Auckland risks not making the most of its multi-billion dollar City Rail Link investment, with an ongoing trial allowing more cars in the city centre. Since April this year, cars have been allowed on parts of Queen Street and Wellesley Street after 7pm, as part of an Auckland Transport trial. Heart of the City pushed for the change, saying banning cars on Queen street was hurting economic recovery for businesses in the area post-Covid. Luka Forman reports.

A former butcher turned industry trainer says job prospects are strong for young people looking to get into the butchery trade. Recent figures from Stats NZ show more than a third of 15 to 24 year-olds are unemployed or underemployed, with jobs scarce. But Peter Martin, who's apprenticeships manager for 'Skills 4 work', says employers actively looking for qualified butchers and apprentices. He spoke to John Campbell.
