The ensemble that derived their name from the Japanese Zen painting of the circle has returned to New Zealand shores. Enso quartet's nationwide tour includes pieces from Ginastera, Hayden, Beethoven and Ravel. Enso - which also means "to perform" in Japanese - members Ken Hamao and New Zealander Richard Belcher spoke with David Morriss recently.

An art work that is a memorial to the thousands of horses that died in WWI, has been selected as one of three finalists in the Regional Art section of the New Zealand Museum Awards. Sarah McClintock from the Sarjeant Gallery in Whanganui says The Horses Stayed Behind by Cat Auburn is made up of hundreds of rosettes using hair sourced from horses around New Zealand.

French avant-garde composer and pianist Erik Satie turns 150 tomorrow. Producers Marg Ogilvie and Amanda Brown discuss their series Satie Says which through dramatic performance shows how his interpretations of life filtered through minimalism, surrealism, and repetitive music.

Sir David Hare has had many highlights in 45 years of writing for the stage. Here as a guest of the Auckland Writers Festival this weekend, he talks about how culture has changed since his breakthrough play Slag in 1970. There will be a play reading of his 1995 drama Skylight on Sunday afternoon; a revival of Skylight starring Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy was a major success in London and New York last year.

Gustavo Gimeno was born to be a conductor - according to former mentor Mariss Jansons at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra where Gimeno used to be principal percussionist. The endearing young Spaniard leads the NZSO and top ranked British pianist Stephen Hough in a performance of music by Brahms, Shostakovich and Gareth Farr.

Scottish born Kiwi glass artist Elizabeth McClure has been busy setting up her latest works for the Auckland Art Fair. Her series Dapple includes hand blown glass that's been sandblasted then enamelled over and over again to create mottled markings.
