2016 marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. Wellington chamber choir Nota Bene will perform The Cloud-capped Towers, a concert imagining Shakespeare in the Land of the Long White Cloud. Jacqueline Coats provides theatrical flair and Nigel Collins plays the Bard of Avon himself, dreaming of the new world about to be discovered: Aotearoa. The choir sings musical gems from Shakespeare's own time as well as our own.

Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti is back playing with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. This time, she performs Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello with German cellist Leonard Elschenbroich. Nicola and Leonard discuss the pressures of having both a creative and personal relationship and how that impacts on their performance of Brahms' intimate Double Concerto. The couple will play the work in eight centres around the country with new NZSO music director Edo de Waart.

Tecwyn Evans is back with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra for the start of its 50th anniversary celebrations. He conducts Ode to Joy this weekend. Along with Beethoven's final Symphony the concert includes a fanfare written by Tecwyn and operatic arias to be performed by Dunedin born singers Clare Barton and Jonathan Lemalu.

Violinist Michael Barenboim is in Auckland to perform Schoenberg's Violin Concerto in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's concert called 'Degenerate'. The works by Mendelssohn, Stravinsky and Schoenberg were all banned by the Third Reich, which would've made this concert illegal in 1940s Germany. Michael Barenboim talks with Eva Radich.

This Saturday is the world premiere of Erebus, a musical memorial of the 1979 civil aviation disaster. Composed by David Hamilton, Erebus takes the audience through the excitement as the passengers embark on an adventure; however jubilation turns to grief when tragedy strikes. Baritone Te Oti Rakena plays the pilot.
