These school holidays the bells will toll for those who decides to pull on the ropes connected to an array of bells, and lights, hanging in Aotea Square. Auckland based composer and sound designer Thomas Press is encouraging those young, and young at heart to create their own symphony of light at sound with his installation Light Bells.

Salman Khan, one of the biggest Bollywood stars around, is coming to New Zealand for a one off concert at Vector Arena.  His screen career has spanned more than 25 years, but it’s his controversies that garner more attention than his films. This weekend a new choral work by Auckland composer Janet Jennings will be given its NZ premiere at Holy Trinity Cathedral. ANZACs - A Generation Lost in Legend  was created in response  to the first world war centenary commissions and was first performed  in Sydney last year.

The New Zealand International Film Festival has films to warm you up as the weather gets cooler. She’s been in New Zealand running workshops and judging dance competitions, but the day job for the dancer-turned-director is to feed fresh talent into the Australian Ballet Company.

In 1964 Sanford and Joan Reuning heard an ensemble of child violinists from Japan give a concert in Philadelphia.  They were pupils of the legendary violin teacher Dr. Suzuki. Sandy was already a violin teacher but the beauty of the children’s playing so impressed him he went to Japan to learn from Suzuki himself, and with his wife Joan has dedicated his live to spreading the Suzuki message, "beautiful tone, beautiful heart". In New Zealand this week their young Heifetz Ensemble give concerts.
