We really haven't discussed in detail what is going to happen to all the EV batteries that will pile up when they are no longer useful in EVs.  It is estimated that upto 1.6 million battery sets per year will need to be repurposed and/or recycled by 2030.  A recent article in T&D World, an electric utility publication, suggests that utilities take the lead in encouraging and repurposing these EV batteries as they become available.

The Federal Government has reversed the loosening of fuel economy standards, looking for a voluntary ten percent fleet improvement for the 2023 model year and 54 mpg by 2026.  This is four years LATER than the original agreement hammered out by the Environmental Protection Agency and a majority of the nation's automakers back in 2012.  By 2027, even heavy truck manufacturers will have to meet tough EPA fuel economy standards for the first time.
