Poetry has never been by go-to genre, but it seems like poetry is loved by many which makes me think that there's some value in it and it's worth giving it a shot.

For this episode, I read The Sun and her Flowers by Rupi Kaur and I talk about what I thought about the book and my opinion on poetry after reading it.

Do you enjoy poetry? If so, what does it mean to you?

Here's a more personal story of how my proficiency of the Korean language evolved and improved over the years, from learning how to speak, read, write, all the way to learning a few hundred chinese characters used in Korean while learning Japanese. To be honest, I don't have an affinity for languages and I'm not particularly good at it, but I keep seeking to improve myself. Listen to find out why!

A discussion based on: The Fall of Language in the Age of English by Mizumura Minae

Wow what a difficult episode to write. I am by no means an expert on languages or the history of literature. This episode is me trying my best to convey the sequence of events that transformed languages that led to this age of English with the intention of questioning what it means to be a bilingual, what does the national language mean to people and why it's important to retain our native language.

Contemporary fiction is not my favorite genre, but back in 2018, after watching the movie trailers multiple times, after watching the movie in theaters and being really excited, I had to pick up Crazy Rich Asians (the whole trilogy!)

Starting with a quick summary of the book, followed by what I thought were the biggest strength and the biggest weakness of the book, and finishing up with why this books means so much to Asians worldwide, this episode is a classic book review! [THERE ARE SPOILERS]

The ability to connect to the world through video, audio, satellite started with Michael Faraday. The engine, the motor, the transformer are thanks to Michael Faraday. But, his extraordinary genius isn't even what makes him my favorite!

Whether you are interested in sciences or not, I believe that it's important for everyone to know a little bit about the man who found fundamental connections between electricity, magnetism, light and gravity.

I want to tell you about his accomplishments, his genius and his admirable qualities, along with exactly what makes him my favorite scientist: the fact that he was a man of faith, his battle with mental illness and that he came from poverty to become the most celebrated scientist of his time.

I love picking favorites. Lucky for me, it's a great way of learning about people who made an impact on humankind and being inspired by their journey.

Enjoy!!

After having devoted all of my post-secondary education to that of science, it turns out I can't easily answer this question: "What is science?". Some people mentally recoil from questions like "What is" as it seems 'too' philosophical, but my burning question is: How come I spent years learning sciences but not what IS science?

Much of this episode is spent ranting about this frustration while I discuss the book "What is this thing called Science?" by Alan Chalmers. Enjoy!

Welcome back to Roa's Podcast!! This new Season will be about all kinds of different books that are, in one way or another, important to me.

This first episode is devoted to the book that got me into reading in the first place: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I read this when I was 16. SIXTEEN. Before that, I didn't read AT ALL. By re-reading it, I got to assess what made this book so easy to get into. Sometimes it's not a bad idea to read an easy book to get into the mood of reading!

Back in June when I started planning for this podcast, I knew that I wanted self-love to be the topic of the last episode of Season 1. I discuss why I think people have a hard time growing their self-love and I spend some time talking about prioritizing yourself, believing in yourself and loving yourself more than anyone else in the world. I hope this gives you a little bit more courage to focus on yourself!

In this episode, I break down what is going on with the overflow of bad coverage concerning k-pop and the truth about the DARK SIDE OF KPOP. Everything I say in this episode is my opinion based on the 12 years I've spent following k-pop news from both Korean and Western news outlets and how I interpret the reaction by the western media towards the popularity of k-pop.
