What goes behind the facade of a perfect life is often disturbing. Lily Bloom lives in an East Coast suburb in Maine with her parents and sister, who have good jobs. Her dad has been mayor for 20 years while mom works as a schoolteacher at their local elementary school; they seem to be living the American Dream yet little do people know that this suburban family hides secrets underneath its surface--secrets like abuse from one parent towards another. Eventually Lily leaves and even though she's in Boston chasing her dream, and going out with the "perfect" guy sometimes a facade is just that.
The book is a love letter to survivors that celebrates their lives. Robin and Joa loved it with all of its honesty, compassion, and raw authenticity.
