Robin Hood Radio received some telephone calls from area listeners asking us if we heard about the closure of the ICU at Sharon Hospital. We immediately contacted Dr. Mark Hirko at Sharon Hospital and posed the question to Mark. His response is no, ICU is not closing, a plan is being formulated to move the ICU to the Medical-Surgical Unit...and Mark stressed it is only in the early planning stages to see if is possible, the full interview can be heard by clicking on the link below/

Maple sugaring is a tradition practiced by diverse cultures throughout Connecticut’s history and continues into the present day. Join Sharon Audubon Center for a virtual program in which our special guests will explain the importance of maple to the Algonkian tribes of the Northeast, as observed in their customs, design motifs, and cultural traditions. You will also glimpse the variety of current-day sugaring operations around the state. Not least, we’ll explore the fascinating ways that a maple sugarbush can support wildlife, especially how it can help our declining forest birds. Join us for a delightfully “sweet” program on sugaring in Connecticut, past and present, human and wild!

Julie and Dan Holliday's lives are the definition of perfect. They have it all: a million-dollar business, properties (including a gorgeous home), and a dog. Julie Holliday is the perfect wife; she is loving, sensuous, and loyal, with adoration for her husband, yet she is in constant fear that her husband and perfect life is all but a facade on the brink of collapse. She finds a note on her husband's desk and is terrified, as it may confirm her suspicions that Dan may be cheating again! Every time she confronts him, he denies it and calls her crazy. Having had enough and determined to live a life afresh without a cheating husband and paranoia, she sells her business, all of her properties, packs her bags and disappears without a trace. Unbeknownst to her, her chapter with Dan is far from over because love may just have other plans for these two.

The Moviehouse has announced they will re-open under new ownership this Spring. Carol came to the realization that the time had come to pass the torch to a new generation to keep the spirit and vitality of the Moviehouse alive. New proprietors David Maltby and Chelsea Altman see in this iconic property a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to honor The Moviehouse’s history while bringing new energy and vision, building on its huge base of support to keep The Moviehouse growing, relevant, and vibrant. David is a founding partner of Empire Square Group, a real estate investment firm, and Chelsea is the co-owner of six bars and restaurants in Brooklyn. Both have deep artistic roots, as Chelsea had a successful career as a New York actress appearing on and off-Broadway, as well as in roles for film and television. David has been an award-winning rock and roll drummer, music, and theatre producer. Chelsea and David see owning The Moviehouse as an opportunity to combine their passions. While building on this long-established and beloved institution, they hope to add their fresh and unique perspective on film, entertainment, and nightlife to enhance the moviegoing experience. They plan to leverage the deep local community of artists, actors, and filmmakers, many of whom are their friends, to get everyone involved to ensure The Moviehouse remains a social and cultural center for all, with special programming and unique events.

The Sharon Playhouse is proud to announce our inaugural 10-minute New Play/Musical Festival for the summer of 2021.

The Writers Playground Festival is committed to giving the talented writers, performers, directors and technicians in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut as well as the neighboring communities in New York and Massachusetts a platform to showcase their talents in their own backyard and see their visions realized.  We also hope to empower people of all ages to use their voice and creativity as vehicles for self expression. 

​Submissions will be accepted in four categories: 

• Plays (written by individuals 18 years of age or younger)
• Musicals (written by individuals 18 years of age or younger)

  Adult Submissions:

• Plays (written by individuals 19 years of age and older)
• Musicals (written by individuals 19 years of age and older)

Submission Guidelines for the Writers Playground are as follows:

• Submissions must come from writers with an address within 50 miles of the Sharon Playhouse (49 Amenia Rd, Sharon CT 06069)
• Any play or musical that is submitted must come directly from the original playwright/lyricist/composer.
• Works that have been previously fully produced will not be accepted.  Works that have had readings will be accepted.
• Plays/Musicals with more than 9 people will not be considered at this time.
• Each submission must be one that can be fully performed in less than 15 minutes.
• If 19 and above and you have a resume (theatrical or otherwise), please include it with your submission.
• Submissions should be sent as a PDF.
• Only one submission per individual.
• Playwrights must be available for rehearsals (if not in person then by Skype, Zoom, phone or email) and use this as an opportunity to continue to refine their work.

THE SELECTION PROCESS:​
