  • Episode 657: (The All-New, All-Different) Pull List for April 8, 2020

Reading List for the Week of April 8, 2020
Mike- The Nib #1 & Love & Rockets (Volume 1)
Greg- Captain America Epic Collection: Man Without A CountryI TPB & The Promised Neverland

Welcome to the All-New, All-Different Pull List Episodes!

With Diamond halting new comics distribution for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike & Greg decided, rather than drop these episodes all-together, to just change up the format. So for this four hundred seventeenth installment of the Pull List series, the lads

chose (1) something from a previous Pull List episode sharing this same release date, and (2) something from their own collections. Our hope is these new Pull List episodes give just as much food for thought in choosing what goes into your quarantine reading queue as the usual ones gave for your LCS shopping trips.

Stay safe and enjoy your funny books!

  • (Rebroadcast) Episode 261: Moving House, or, The Key Issues

This episode was originally broadcast on January 24, 2016.

Mike’s preparation for an impending move starts this week’s free-range conversation with talk about how we store all these comics that we buy & hang on to. Long boxes or shelves? Alphabetical or categorical? Sifting through a years-spanning collection always unearths forgotten treasure, which then begged the question: what to DO with that treasure?

The loaded ‘slabbing’ debate is talked about, leading to discussion about what actually goes into making an issue ‘key’. First appearance? Death? Wild card? And while we can all think of Big Two special issue tentpoles, what about the independents? What “L&R” issue would YOU slab, given the chance?

All that, plus emotional organizing versus objective organizing, the best comics-related gift Greg has ever received, what Diamond boxes are and aren’t good for, which IKEA furniture makes the best library fodder, home library as physical manifestations of our brains, the Pieta, Jim Starlin, Batman/Starman/Hellboy, and much more!

  • (The All-New, All Different) Pull List for April 1, 2020

Picks for Wednesday, April 1, 2020 Mike- Judge Dredd Classics: The Apocalypse War HC & Bazooka Joe and His Gang: 60th Anniversary Collection HC Greg- Starlight: The Return of Duke McQueen TPB & JLA/Avengers: The Collector's Edition HC

With Diamond deciding to halt distribution of new content to comic shops for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike & Greg decided to change up the format of these Pull List episodes rather than just stop doing them. So for this four hundred sixteenth installment of the Pull List series, instead of just picking two new books for the coming week, the lads each chose a book for these two criteria:

    1) A previous Pull List choice of theirs from a date as close to one or more years prior to this date as possible, and

    2) A random book from their shelves they wanted to discuss.

  • [Rebroadcast] Episode 300: HELLBOY IN HELL by Mike Mignola

This episode was originally broadcast on June 4, 2016.

The lads celebrate 300 episodes by finally talking about a creator never before mentioned on the show: Mike Mignola! All kidding aside, this episode finds Mike & Greg in immediate post-Hellboy in Hell #10 territory, as the final issue hit stands mere hours before the tape started rolling.

After 23 years and 66 issues in various iterations, Mignola brings his story of a demon raised as a man to a close, possibly forever. Mike & Greg talk about not only what happens in the last installment, but preface that deep-dive with a healthy back&forth of Mignola's work & career in general.

What is it about his work that invites so much discussion? How have the years honed the Mignola/Stewart collaboration? When did Hellboy first zig where every one of his imitators zag, and which direction did that point to Mignola’s creative voice going? All that and more, plus Greg’s final answer on the “curve” Mignola vs “straight” Mignola debate, as Robots From Tomorrow celebrates its 300th episode!

  • March 2020 Previews, Part 2

The comics window-shopping continues! Flipping to the companion magazines and then back to the front of the catalog, Mike & Greg's attention focuses on the 'premier publishers': Dark Horse! DC! Image! IDW! Marvel! Dynamite! BOOM! What's coming to comic shops in May (and beyond) from these companies that catches the lads' fancies?

All that, plus Greg waxes rhapsodic about Charley Varrick, and more. Definitely something for everyone as the lads close out their trip through the March 2020 "Previews" catalog!
