Robots From Tomorrow!

Another "Previews" in the pullbox means another look into our comics future! With focus shifting to the Premier section, what impending February 2017 releases catch Mike & Greg's fancy? (Or Brian and Greg, since Mike is still on sabbatical?) Having finished the Green section, Brian's presence causes a crisis in Premier publisher discussion order; Marvel Comics takes the lead slot and DC Comics anchors the episode. But when you have one of the DC3 trio on your show, you can't pass up that opportunity to deep-dive on the Distinguished Competition, can you? (No, you can't.) So come for the Man-Thing/Swamp Thing discussion and stay for the book-by-book Rebirth breakdown! Definitively something for everyone in part two of this encompassing look at January's "Previews" catalog!

This week Mike welcomes cartoonist Josh Bayer to the show to discuss "All Time Comics," the new, shared universe superhero line from Fantagraphics. To bring these books to life, Josh and his brother Samuel looked to an amalgamation of classic and modern comics talent. Folks like Herb Trimpe, Al Milgrom, Ben Marra, Noah Van Sciver, and Rick Buckler came together for this, collaborating in unexpected ways to make some unexpected comics. Josh talks about his thoughts on blending artists from different generations, explains why it's not as new of an idea as one might think, and shares his vast knowledge of comics in general. "All Time Comics: Crime Destroyer #1" is available for pre-order now, and will be hitting the shelves of all respectable comic shops in March.
