Love Me Where I Can Feel It

In recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week, we’re looking beyond diagnoses and symptoms and talking about something that can have a huge impact on our mental well-being: our relationships and whether we actually feel seen, heard, supported and loved in them.

Someone can genuinely love the hell out of you — and you still may not be receiving that love in a way you can feel.

In this episode, Bethany and Tammy explore the 5 Love Languages and how understanding the ways we give and receive love can change our relationships with partners, family, friends and even ourselves.

We talk about what happens when love languages don’t match, how unmet needs can affect our mental health, the difference between expecting someone to read our mind and actually communicating what we need and why healthy relationships require effort from both sides.

This isn’t about blaming the people who love us or demanding they love us perfectly. It’s about learning ourselves, learning each other, communicating more clearly and creating relationships where love isn’t only intended — it’s actually felt.

🖤 Real conversations. Lived experience. Different perspectives. No judgment.

Recovering in the Family & as the Family — Part 3

Recovery doesn’t happen to just one person. Addiction can affect an entire family and when recovery begins, everyone may have something of their own to heal from.

In Episode 19, Bethany and Tammy continue their Recovery Month conversation about recovering in the family AND as the family, bringing both sides of the experience to the table with no judgment and only respect.

Bethany shares from the perspective of lived experience with addiction and recovery while Tammy brings the perspective of a family member who has loved and walked alongside people struggling with addiction and in recovery.

This week we dig deeper into what happens after recovery begins—when the person changing may be ready to move forward, but the people who love them are still carrying fear, hurt and memories of what happened before.

We talk about accountability without living forever in shame, the difference between understanding behavior and excusing it, supporting someone without doing the work for them and why every person in a family may heal at a different pace.

And we begin one of the biggest conversations of all:

    TRUST.

How do you rebuild something that may have been broken over and over again? What does it feel like when you know you're changing but the people around you still don't trust you? And what does it feel like for the family member who desperately wants to believe things are different but is afraid to let their guard down?

We didn't finish that conversation—and we're not rushing it.

Next week, we're picking right back up with TRUST.

Because sometimes everyone was standing in the same fire they were just standing in different places.

RECOVERING AS A FAMILY: Building a Healthier Tomorrow Together

Recovery Month continues and so does our conversation about something that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough:

What does recovery look like for the whole family?

In Episodes 17 and 18, we dug into both sides of addiction in the family — the perspective of the person struggling with addiction and the perspective of the people who love them. We talked about the hurt, fear, guilt, resentment, boundaries and the reality that recovery doesn’t automatically erase what happened.

For Episode 19, we’re taking the next step.

Now that we understand more about what everyone has been carrying… how do we actually move forward?

Bethany and Tammy are bringing their different lived perspectives back to the table as we talk about what it takes to create healthier family relationships after addiction has changed the family dynamic.

We’re getting into boundaries, rebuilding trust, communication, support, accountability and breaking unhealthy or generational patterns — but we’re also talking about something just as important:

You don’t have to recreate the family you had before addiction. You can build something healthier than what existed before.

Recovery doesn’t mean forgetting the past.
Healing doesn’t mean pretending nobody got hurt.
    Forgiveness doesn’t automatically mean trust.
And boundaries don’t mean you stopped loving someone.

Sometimes family recovery means learning an entirely new way to love each other.
