Psalm 1:4 

 The first three verses of Psalm One tell us of the blessed man, what kind of person he is, and the outcome of his life. The last three verses speak of the opposite of the blessed man. The ungodly. These are the ones whose counsel the blessed man will not take, whose way of life he will not follow, and in whose seat he will not sit. But what do we think of when we speak of an ungodly person? What makes a person ungodly?

Romans 10:14-17  

In the context surrounding these famous verses, Paul shares the grief and sorrow of his heart for the salvation of his brethren, the Hebrews, Israel. They, trusting in their own righteousness and rejecting the righteousness of God remain ignorant to the truth of the Gospel. This is where he asks the questions, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"  The question is the same for our own villages, towns and nation. Jesus commanded us to 'Go" and to preach repentance and remission of sins in Jesus name. Paul tells us that it is through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. How will our world hear and believe if the Church doesn't take the Gospel to them. Open air preaching is as important today as it has been throughout all history!

Psalm 1:3 

After establishing The blessed man is one who no longer walks in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands eyes glazed upon the temptations of vanity fair in the path of sinners, nor will ever again find comfort in the seat of mockers. And in seeing the delights and desires change from worldliness to loving and cherishing the word of God in which he lives, we now see the effects of this newness of life and exactly what this blessed man is like….

John 3:1-21 

Nicodemus confesses that Jesus must be from God for no-one could do the signs He did if He weren't. Jesus in His response to this doesn't acknowledge any of that, instead going straight to the root...Unless one is born again he cannot even see the kingdom of God. What does this mean? The term 'born again' infers a first birth, that there is something wrong in this first birth. Something went drastically wrong! Jesus didn't give any other option for seeing or entering His kingdom...You MUST be born again!

Psalm 1:2 

The blessed man is one who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands inquiring, ogling, contemplating wickedness in the path of sinners. Nor will he ever be found sitting comfortably, making his home in the place of mocking and scorning true religion. BUT...his delight is in the law of the Lord!  The scriptures are full of the righteous man's love for God's word, just a glimpse at Psalm 119 will give you an abundance. However we live in times where confession and profession to know God and love His word are often empty and without action. Do we say we love Jesus? Then we will love His word! If we never read, pray over it, ponder, think deeply upon the wealth of riches contained in His word, can we really say we love Him? Many Christians today remain biblically illiterate, not even taking a bible to Church. How does this fit with the blessed man who meditates on it day and night?

John 3:1-2  

Many had professed belief in Christ due to witnessing the signs He performed. But Christ knew men and what was in them, how fickle they are and didn't entrust Himself to them. He knew just how many signs the Israelites saw in the wilderness and yet the first generation died there in unbelief.  But then comes Nicodemus...And at night!

Psalm 1:1 

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful  We say 'bless you' to someone when they sneeze. We end messages with blessings. But when it comes to the blessed man of Psalm One, what does it mean to be blessed?

John 2:23-25 

Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.  The long awaited Messiah was expected to come performing signs and wonders. Jesus did! However even though He was attested by God by these signs and miracles, and the men of Israel knew it, nevertheless, they crucified the Lord of Glory.  These people saw signs and said they believed...But Jesus didn't commit Himself to them...For He knew all men...And knew what was in Man!

Luke 8:43-48 

In this truly amazing story an unknown woman who has suffered 12 long years with an issue of blood, who for over a decade has remained unclean, untouchable, isolated, separated and desperate. All she needed was to touch the hem of Jesus garment and she knew she would be healed. Such faith, and she was made not only well but completely whole. Jesus Christ doesn't do this only for this woman, but for all who put their trust in Him for their salvation. We are, as sinners unclean and no other physician, philosophy, religious icon or good work will make us clean. Only Christ can make us whole.

John 2:13-22

  in this fast paced text Jesus clears the temple of merchants and their wares sold for the sacrifices of the temple. How could one man drive out so many people using a hand made whip. Why did they obey Him? Why did He do this? Because zeal for His Father's house had eaten Him up!
