Psalm 23:4 

The Lord the Shepherd of His people leads, guides, nourishes and protects His sheep. He is not a hireling, they belong to Him. Dark valley's are part of a Christians life which leads to the valley of the shadow of death, where as believers we fear no evil because Christ is with us. Part of this context are the rod and staff of the Shepherd which serve also to bring comfort.

John 1:9-12  

The Word who was in the beginning with God, who is indeed God Himself. The Word who made the world and all that is in it. The Word came to His own, and His own received Him not. Who are HIs own? All men? The elect? Who was it who rejected and refused Him? Verse that speak such sadness and yet much blessing, for as many as did receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God. Who are they...but all those who believe on His name!

Psalm 23:3 

The Lord our great Shepherd leads His sheep in the paths of righteousness. The Gospel must be preached to all, everywhere. Jesus called us to enter by the narrow gate, and that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The free offer of the gospel is an absolute. But it must also be maintained that its He who conducts His sheep on the right paths, the way of holiness and ultimately for His own glory...For His names sake.

John 1:4-5 

The life was the light of men? all men? How? There is darkness in this world of wickedness and rejection of Christ, that is certain. And yet we are told that the light shines in the Darkness.Jesus Christ is the Light and the darkness no matter how wicked can never overpower or overcome Him!!

Philippians 4:4

Are you rejoicing?  Paul is not been unfeeling or simplistic in urging us to rejoice. It is actually very reasonable and logical to rejoice because we have good grounds. We rejoice ‘in the Lord.’ We rejoice in the context of the relationship we have with our God. Unlike people of the world, we have foundations to our lives in Christ. Especially we rejoice for we have a Saviour. We are able to look on the finished work on the Cross and be satisfied. We see we have a future, heaven itself, but we also have the Lord’s presence here on earth. Perhaps we are not as joyful as we should be because we are careless in our walk with Him, or holding on to secret sins or not believing that He is a sufficient Saviour.

Luke 9:31

An Assisted Death  Usually we urge people to live. When Moses and Elijah appeared with our Lord at His Transfiguration , they were speaking of His death. The Law and the Prophets all spoke of His suffering. Even here, when briefly glorified, it is His death that is the subject of the greatest importance. Christ followed through with accomplishing His death to the letter, fulfilling Scripture.  He was given every help and assistance in this mission. And it was all for the sake of sinners He did it.

Luke 9:51

After Peter gave his confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, we see Jesus begins to intensify making known His coming death. Jesus set His face toward Jerusalem. He had the authority to lay down His life and to take it back again. Resolutely, He pursued the will of His Father, and nothing would stop Him making His way toward the cross!
