What kind of adults do you want your children to grow up to be?  Most of us have a very similar answer; independent, strong, happy, faith-based, honest, hardworking, etc.... Give or take a few descriptors, we all seem to have a fairly common desire for our children.  The question is, when you look at what you want your children to grow to be, are you actually preparing them to be that?  Or, are you protecting them and guiding their every step?  

We have actually coined a phrase we call - "Rescue Parent", a parent who knowingly or not, rescues their child from nearly every inconvenience or consequence they encounter.  There is a time and place to rescue your child.  If they are getting ready to run out into traffic, yes, by all means, stop them.  But if they are riding their bike a little too fast, or not doing their homework, or they forget their lunch on their way to school.  These are things that will most likely not cause anything more than discomfort and inconvenience in their life.  These are the things that come with excellent teaching opportunities for your child.  

In today's show, Linda and Merrill address the absolute importance of allowing your child to fail, fall, mess-up, get scratched, maybe even get in trouble.  Yes, allow them to be in the middle of these situations and then allow them the priceless opportunity to figure it out!  This is what helps up to grow children into the resources, responsible and productive people that we yearn for.
