It's everywhere! Everywhere we seem to turn technology is putting a new spin on our way of life. So much of it is amazing as it makes our life more efficient and many tasks much faster. However, we have discovered that all of the good comes at a cost. Not just a financial cost, but a cost to many other areas of life.
During this show, Merrill and Linda confess their challenge of using technology in so much of their work, but trying to be a better example to their own kids. With work now losing its boundaries of a separate office place and timeframe, we see technology being done throughout our working hours no matter where we are. Driving in the car, eating meals with our family, or sitting in church can be interrupted by technology; mostly the technology in our pockets and purses, the cell phone.
Remember the phrase, "more is caught than taught", as it relates to what our kids are learning from us. Our kids are being told to cut back on their screen times and get off the video games as the adults are staring at their own phones and computers. The hypocrisy is real even though we like to dismiss it with comments like, "I'm an adult", or "I'm busy doing work". These statements are used to release us from the burden of responsibility, but again, more is caught than taught in the eyes of our kids.
Merrill and Linda are not only calling out our kids to be more aware of their technology use, they are calling out all of us adults. Maybe it's time to look in the mirror and see where the real problem lies.
