The day only promises to get worse once the heroes leave the safety of Inn to continue the hunt for the source of the infection. A swollen reservoir doesn’t hold as many answers as they had hoped but it does reveal something far worse, much to Grolen’s distress. On top of that, it appears Quoran has used the last of the energy they can spare and is no longer able to provide guidance. Left alone, deep underground, it seems like the heroes only have one way to go: down.

Bob’s Wondrous Emporium might only ever hold ten items yet there’s no beating their impressive, storied nature, perfect wares for the apparently legendary heroes who are able to enter. Xelas, Ygin and Rokain aren’t so sure they buy the ‘legendary hero’ bit. Nonetheless, now that they’ve wrangled an ancestor’s story out of Bob, they turn their eyes to some of the other treasures in the hope they can find a satisfactory agreement with Bob’s unusual methods of payment. Meanwhile, Grolen waits for an explanation and Quoran isn’t about to let them forget their promise of help.

After barely scraping through the fight with their hearts intact, rest is high on everyone’s priority list. Fortunately, there’s a perfect cavern which should be easily defensible. Unfortunately, the path to it is either blocked or requires a lot of wiggling to get through. Their efforts to reach it are unexpectedly well-rewarded however. There’s no time to waste if the heroes want to save Quoran. They follow the whistled summons only to find their way blocked by a dangerous creature known as a Gaunt One which likes to drown anyone it comes across. Grolen isn’t being metaphorical either when he says they will steal your heart. What should be an easy fight instantly proves to be much more troublesome as they all struggle to maneuver in the narrow passageways. Of course, the Gaunt One has no difficulties at all strolling right up to sink its claws into its first victim.

The heroes ignored the dream warning and delved into the dark depths. Now they’re confronted with signs all around that something is terribly wrong in the mountain. After Ygin spots ominous apologies carved into a wall and Rokain finds a dismembered finger, everyone is on edge when the distant screaming starts. Although prepared for a trap, the source of the screaming might be far more of a punch to the gut than they expected and no one could predict just who needs to be saved.
