Interview: Tanner Gallery on the Vieux Carré

Producer Roland Ramos speaks with artist and gallery owner Tanner about his journey from Alabama to New Orleans. While it is a short distance, it was a long road that brought Tanner from Jackson Square running his own gallery just a few blocks away!

Manhattan is full of tales. With all its storied neighborhoods, it's easy to forget that It's also an island. The lower East Side is an island unto itself, a the part of the island where the cobblestone peaks out from the asphalt.

Don't let its "turn of the century" charm fool you. I'm confident that the Whole Foods and other niche micro-shops will serve as adequate backdrops to the new waves of thinkers, ready to change the world.

Because you can't spell Earth without art.

We are going to dive into something new and pretty exciting. We have organized an art crawl in Sonoma county. Specifically, in the town of Healdsburg. Our aim in this special episode is to introduce listeners to the history of Healdsburg, while also taking listeners on a little walking tour of this small yet culturally invigorating little town. Take a stroll through the local history as well as meet some of the artists, gallery owners and collectives that make this popular little town POP!

We begin with explorations in the naming of Alexandria, becoming part of DC, and the construction of the Torpedo Factory. We further discuss the Torpedo Factory influence on the development of the waterfront area, creating a thriving art scene, and the history of how the Torpedo Factory and how it became a significant economic engine in the area. Ive always loved that sound, yet never really knew what it was. I just remember that awesome movie “The Hunt for Red OCtober”... Still one of my favorites.

“Set Range to target… One Ping Only”

That is the Sound of active Sonar.

Sonar is actually an acronym representing Sound and Range;

Basic physics attests that sound travels much farther in water, so much so that Sonar is used by submarines in order to determine its proximity to its surroundings and the shape of submerged objects.

Once the sound wave reaches a submerged object, it immediately bounces back to the source with information on things like contours and shapes. The same principles are utilized in Sonograms, and ultrasounds on your body, using sound to create 3D images has been in use for a while.

In the Military, A submarine would use sonar to verify a range to a target, and then launch a torpedo with a tremendous amount of accuracy.
