Another year has passed, and it's time once again for the Japan Academy Film Prize—one of the most prestigious awards in the Japanese film calendar—to crown the Best Animated Film. Ahead of the full event on March 13, the Award for Excellence recipients were released today, revealing that both Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle are up for Best Animation Film.

Winners for each category are chosen from those picked for an Award for Excellence, a kind of nomination process.

The full award is really anyone's game this year, as Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen TrainOpens in a new tab won the award in 2020, and Look Back, based on another manga written by Chainsaw ManOpens in a new tab creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, won last year. Of course, 100 Meters has been praised for its animation, and Detective ConanOpens in a new tab is a continuing cultural icon of the Japanese entertainment landscape, having been nominated many times before without winning.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is officially underway, and the series has already settled back into its quiet, reflective rhythm. Episode 1 opened with a quiet reset that still found room for danger and character growth. It focused less on spectacle and more on trust, companionship, and the long road still ahead for Frieren, Fern and Stark. As always, the story balanced gentle humor with emotional weight, reminding viewers why the series stands apart from most modern fantasy anime.

Episode 1 also shows how far the group has come as a team. Frieren puts Stark in the lead when magic is unusable, and her confidence in him becomes the emotional backbone of the premiere. With the season’s tone now firmly established, attention naturally turns to what comes next. With the journey north continuing by road, Episode 2 should build on that momentum, pushing the trio closer to the Northern Plateau while testing what being a party really means.

One-Punch Man, the anime that once set industry standards for animation, has now been dubbed as "One Frame Man." After the debacle of Season 3, Part 1, fans are almost afraid of the next installment’s release. Clearly, expectations for the anime have shifted, but the truth is that One-Punch Man Season 3, Part 2 can still be saved.

Although it seems almost unbelievable, One-Punch Man has not lost the battle yet, especially with the Monster Association Arc still being continued in the anime. Season 3, Part 2 has enough chances to redeem the anime’s reputation, but only if the production committee making demands of J.C. Staff is willing to do so.

Coming off a legendary year of success in 2025, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle is off to a rough start in 2026. The franchise’s chain of record-breaking accomplishments was snapped at the Golden Globes, where Infinity Castle lost Best Animated Motion Picture.

Chainsaw Man’s Assassins Arc is the direct sequel to the Reze Arc film, first announced to be in production during Jump Festa 2026. It’s the canonical next arc in the Chainsaw Man manga, showing what’s next for Denji after the heartbreak he suffered at Reze’s hands. Fans won’t want to miss this exciting new stage for the series as it dives into an arc that’s even more explosive than the Bomb Devil Hybrid herself.

The seemingly ordinary and unimpressive Saitama has a rather unique hobby: being a hero. Genos proposes that the two join the Hero Association in order to become certified heroes that will be recognized for their positive contributions to society, and Saitama, shocked that no one knows who he is, quickly agrees. And thus begins the story of One Punch Man, an action-comedy that follows an eccentric individual who longs to fight strong enemies that can hopefully give him the excitement he once felt and just maybe, he'll become popular in the process.

Denji is robbed of a normal teenage life, left with nothing but his deadbeat father's overwhelming debt.
