This Sunday, Elder Kenny closed our Discipleship series with a charge from Matthew 28:16–20. He reminded us that discipleship begins with grace, costs us daily, transcends culture, and culminates in the Great Commission. Jesus calls ordinary people—doubters, fishermen, zealots, tax collectors, and us—to go, baptize, and teach. The mission is not ours alone but empowered by the authority and presence of Christ. The Great Commission is not the “Great Suggestion”—it is God’s invitation to join Him in reaching the nations. Will we be a church that goes?

Elder Bongani reminded us from Acts 15 that salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ with no cultural add-ons. The gospel transcends every culture, preserves what is good, and transforms what is broken.

Whether in our traditions, Ubuntu, or family identity, Jesus doesn’t erase who we are. He redeems it. Our truest identity? Children of the living God.

The call: practice cultural discipleship by engaging your culture with wisdom, honour Christ above all, and keep the gospel central.

In Luke 14:25–35, Jesus makes it clear — salvation is free, but following Him will cost you everything. Discipleship isn’t a label; it’s a daily, Spirit-empowered surrender that shapes your relationships, priorities, and possessions. Each believer has a unique cost to count, and together as a church, we do too. The reward? Life with Christ now and forever. Are we just fans of Jesus, or true followers willing to go wherever He leads?

This week at Rooted Fellowship, Pastor Jono kicked off a brand-new sermon series titled simply Discipleship. Coming off a significant moment in the life of our church, saying farewell to our founding leaders, Pastor One and Mamoruti Confidence, the focus now shifts to how we live out our faith as followers of Jesus.

Rooted is a disciple-making church, and this series dives deep into what that means—not just in theory, but in everyday life. Drawing from Ephesians 2:1–10, we were reminded that discipleship begins with God’s grace. We were dead in our sins, captive to the world, the flesh, and the devil—but God, rich in mercy, made us alive in Christ. That’s our origin story.

Discipleship isn’t about mere cultural Christianity or religious habits; it’s about a transformed life rooted in Jesus. This transformation leads to good works, not to earn salvation, but in response to it. Pastor Jono challenged us to reflect on how we’re living out our faith in our time, treasures, and talents, and to intentionally engage those who are spiritually far from God.

As we begin this journey through discipleship, we’re invited to pray for our “one more” — the person God is calling us to reach — and to live with gospel urgency. Let’s be a people who know our story, live it out boldly, and invite others into the life-changing grace of Jesus.

As we conclude both our sermon series in Galatians and a significant chapter in the life of Rooted Fellowship, we are reminded of one unshakable truth: you are free. Not because of what you’ve done, but because of what Christ has done. In this final message, we explore the last chapters of Galatians where Paul moves from theology to practice — urging us to stand firm in gospel freedom and never submit again to a yoke of slavery.

We are children of promise, not performance — heirs through grace, not effort. But freedom is not passive. It must be fiercely protected, walked out daily in the Spirit, and used not for self but for service. The call is clear: love one another, restore gently, carry one another’s burdens, and sow in the Spirit. We are not building a community of perfection, but a community of grace.

And as the Mokgatles step away, One’s charge to us echoes Paul’s: Stay free. Keep Christ at the center. Let the cross be your only boast. Build churches and communities where grace reigns, diversity thrives, and the Spirit of God transforms hearts.

This week in our Be Free series through Galatians, we turned to chapter 4 where Paul reminds us of a stunning truth: in Christ, we are no longer slaves, but sons and daughters—heirs of God. With clarity and pastoral warmth, we were reminded that our identity in Christ changes everything. It’s not performance, pedigree, or circumstance that define us—but the love of a Father who redeems, adopts, and delights in His children.

Through Paul’s words and a powerful illustration from The Prince and the Pauper, we explored the tragedy of living like a slave even though we sit at the King’s table. We saw how the Spirit enables us to cry Abba, Father—the same intimate relationship Jesus has with the Father is now ours.

We were challenged to stop begging and start belonging. To pray like children, not beggars. To serve from love, not fear. And to rest in a dignity, freedom, and joy that performance-based religion can never offer.

Whether you’re struggling with shame, anxious about the future, or caught in a cycle of trying to earn God’s love—this message is a call home. Because if you are in Christ, you are royalty. Live like it.

This week’s message in our Be Free series dives deep into Galatians 3:15–29, a passage where Paul reminds the church that we are not spiritual beggars trying to earn God’s favor—we are heirs of the promise. Just like someone unknowingly living in poverty while holding the title to a great inheritance, many believers today live under law and performance, forgetting that every spiritual blessing is already ours in Christ.

Paul tackles a crucial question: What is the relationship between God’s law and God’s promise? His answer is radical—God’s promise predates and outweighs the law. The law was temporary, a guardian pointing us to Christ, but now that faith has come, we are no longer under supervision. We are sons and daughters of God, clothed in Christ, united across every human boundary.

This message calls us to reject salvific hierarchies, embrace our identity as free children in God’s family, and live from promise, not performance. In Christ, we don’t strive to earn an inheritance—we live from it. We are clothed in Christ, no longer defined by scars or achievements, but by His finished work on the cross.

Rooted, you are heirs. So live like it. Believe it. Embrace it. You are free.

In part five of our Galatians series, we’re reminded that the Christian life begins and continues by faith in Christ alone. Paul confronts the Galatians—and us—with a sobering question: if we began by the Spirit, why do we now try to finish by the flesh? In this powerful message, we hear again the heartbeat of the gospel: salvation is not earned through law-keeping, rituals, or performance, it is received by faith. Drawing from their own experience, the life of Abraham, and even the Old Testament law itself, Paul makes one thing clear: Jesus bore the curse of the law on our behalf so that we could be blessed with the promise of the Spirit. May we stop striving, lay down our self-effort, and rest in the finished work of Christ.

This week, we continue our Be Free series in Galatians by confronting one of the biggest threats to Christian freedom—adding to the gospel. In Galatians 2:11–21, Paul boldly opposes Peter for compromising the truth of the gospel out of fear and cultural pressure. Through this powerful account, we’re reminded that salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ alone—no traditions, preferences, or additions required. We’re called to stand firm in that truth, to lovingly confront gospel compromise, and to embrace unity in our beautiful diversity as the church. Christ died not to give us religion, but to give us Himself. Let’s live like we are truly free.
