Do you ever wonder what grief is doing to you? If you are walking through any kind of loss right now, whether it be small or big, a loss is a loss. You may wonder why it takes so long or looks so different for each person. You might be angry or frustrated with God. It’s ok. He sees into your pain. He can handle your anger and frustration. But, do you ever wonder why he allows it to continue?

Do you ever feel like your schedule is just too busy? Do you find yourself with more on your to-do list than you have hours in the day? If you can relate, you are not alone. We have so many voices clamoring for our attention. Voices that tell us we should be baking sourdough bread, saving more for our kids college, spending more time in God’s Word, feeding the poor, helping this or that cause and the list goes on and on. We weren’t meant to do it all. Have you ever stopped to think whose voice you are listening to?
Do you ever just want to run away from life? All the adult responsibilities, all the pain can make slipping off the radar seem very attractive. Where do you run when life gets chaotic? Maybe you seek escape through technology, movies, social media, books, shows, food, etc. or you seek escape by booking that next trip only to come right back to the pain. We may numb it for a bit but we still carry it with us. Someone once said “The most important thing about you is where you turn when life is hard.” When everything false apart. When the pain is too great. When the pressures are too heavy. Where do you run?
Have you ever felt the pressure to be something, yet you try and struggle and fail to measure up? We’ve all felt the pressure to be. Maybe it’s to be all things for your kids or for your boss or your friends or your family. We are exhausted from trying. It seems like a no win situation. This can feel especially overwhelming when we see all the commands in Scripture but yet we are also all too familiar with our own human frailty. We think, “if people only knew what a mess we are, right”?
Have you ever thought about the fact that you did absolutely nothing to wake up to a world full of beauty today? You probably woke up to a list of to-do’s and schedules, like me. And staring down at all these demands can leave us feeling exhausted before the day even begins. What if instead of thinking about resting AFTER our work is done at the end of a day, we began our day from a place of rest? What does this even look like?
What makes someone great? Is it what they accomplish in this world that makes them great? Is it a winning attitude or a seemingly productive life? You probably recognize greatness in others, but can you recognize it in yourself? When you do recognize greatness, do you acknowledge it or do you withhold good or withhold praise?
Can you grasp the thought that you were loved even before you did anything this morning? Before you opened your Bible, before you packed your kid’s lunches, before you kissed your husband goodbye, before you accomplished anything at work, anything grand for the kingdom, you were loved and accepted. It’s hard to believe this isn’t it?
Have you ever retreated into hiding because of something done to you or an event that left you shaken and unsure? It’s easy to give into those fears and allow them to speak over our lives resulting in us being over-protective of ourselves. We retreat. Locked away in a prison of our own making, we redecorate the walls with fear designed to keep us secluded, longing for peace but never finding it. Jesus searches for us and enters through our barricaded doors bringing peace into a room thick with fear.
Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by a slew of emotions? Maybe you feel like you don’t have time to sort through them all or you just don’t want to. Sometimes we tend to stuff down our emotions, but it is so important to wrestle them out of ourselves. It’s healthy to work through all that we are feeling and talk it out with God and maybe a trusted friend. Because when we don’t deal with those things, they often come out sideways and are expressed in unhealthy ways.
If you are feeling weak today, this is for you! On today’s podcast, I share one of my favorite Greek words and how it helps explain a very popular verse.
