I love doing these podcasts but I haven’t been doing them for a while, yet again. Jeez, this is becoming a common theme that I need to address. While I haven’t completely forgot about the podcast, the last time I recorded one was in mid-December. I recorded a batch of episodes and scheduled them to release. Because I had all of these episodes lined up, I knew that I didn’t have to focus on creating more. I procrastinated. I procrastinated until the podcast was no longer at the top of my mind. Now, I still think about the podcast but it’s a fleeting thought that comes up in the middle of the workday or as I lay down to go to bed. Inopportune times to create and record an episode.
The reason why I bring that up is because my routine for the podcast got out of whack and ultimately hurt the podcast. Routine is important in everything we do. We’re creatures of habit. If we habitually drive to work in the morning, we get to the point that we can sleepwalk, or sleep-drive our way there. It’s so routine that we don’t need to think about it, it just happens. Alternatively, if you happen to say live during a global pandemic and you only travel once every couple of weeks you start to lose your ability to drive without thought. Your drives become foreign. You’re hyper aware of everything because you’re doing something quote unquote, new again.
While this podcast isn’t dead on my end, it’s certainly died in listenership due to my lack of care for this platform. I’m done making promises on what I will or won’t do with the podcast because I’ve fallen short. I’ve proven time and time again that I will forget or neglect the platform after a few short weeks. That’s not the brand and legacy that I wish to leave behind. While, in other aspects of my life, I kick serious butt, in part due to my organization skills, I need to carry that to my podcast. That could mean setting aside half our a day to create a new episode. It could mean setting aside fifteen minutes a day to develop relationships with small business owners for the Rounie Long Format episodes. Regardless of what’s done, a routine needs to be put in place. If you’re struggling to keep up in an area of your life, maybe this is something worth visiting. If you want to be rich, study rich people. If you want to be fit, study fit people. If you want to be successful, study successful people. You don’t necessarily need to DO the same thing everyday to ACHIEVE what you want but setting aside some time to build on the core aspects of your life that you’d like to improve goes a long way.
