We continue the Oscar season with the comic sadness of Martin Mcdonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin”. We are extremely impressed with the writing and performances; however, we can’t say we’re in love with Martin’s competent but somewhat dull mise en scène.

The boys talk about Mohammad Aslani’s “Chess of Wind”, a wonderfully restrained film that boils over time and then explodes with a horror-like sequence. We find it a very “chessy” film indeed, both in how the characters operate and how the camera moves (or doesn’t move). Other topics discussed: The ethics of Holocaust films; Orson Welles.
