The prolific Hong Sang-soo conjures up another fascinating film “The Woman Who Ran”. We marvel in the director’s mastery of long takes and zooms, and how with the power of gestures and Kim Min-hee’s (his ever present collaborator) wonderful performance, we are given enough to attempt to answer the question: what is the woman running from?

We take a trip to “Alphaville”, Godard’s unique sci-fi noir where the detective Lenny Caution must save a society ruled by an unfeeling machine. We find particularly Godard’s belief in the emancipating power of Art and Love very inspiring and optimistic, despite having some minor problems with the narrative and emotional development of the film which inherently come from his approach.

In celebration of the 60 years of James Bond on film, the boys of Royale embark on a double bill review of the classic 007 GOLDFINGER together with 007 NO TIME TO DIE. “Goldfinger”, the classic where the special agent became a pop culture phenomenon; and “No Time to Die”, an interesting even if flawed attempt at bringing the Craig Era to an emotionally fulfilling end. No hard feelings Daniel, Tomás, our in-house Bond fan, loves you still.

On the budding episode, it’s time for Tomás to explain why Shyamalan’s "Old" doesn't quite tickle his pickle, and why Leo and Miguel are quite fond of the film and the director across his many facets: from his most serious to his quirkiest hits.

In a more horror focused episode, the boys of Royale are impressed by Roger Corman’s “House of Usher”, a low budget classic with a wonderfully built ambience based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story about a crumbling aristocratic family and Vincent Price pretending not to hear you with his "overly sensitive ears" .

Hoje falamos sobre "Bad Education" de Pedro Almodóvar, e nenhum de nós ficou particularmente impressionado com a narrativa intencionalmente forçada, o desenvolvimento emocional das personagens ou o às vezes estilo kitch piroso-queque do Senhor Pedro - todavia reconhecemos uma visão singular neste seu filme.
