The year is 1501 DR. The last hundred years have been an endless procession of apocalypse: The Time of Troubles. The Spellplague. The Wailing Years. The Great Rain. The Second Sundering. The Weave itself has nearly collapsed almost three times, held together only by the efforts of reckless archmages, tireless in the face of the cyclical death and rebirth of the goddess of magic. The rules of divinity have barely held stable over this hundred years of conflict, maintaining a tense peace, with the gods content to remain aloof from the material plane. At least for now, perhaps.

For the mortals of Faerun, however, yet another calamity has befallen them.

Three adventurers gather in the basement of the Fat Tail to discuss the unthinkable: a god has been slain, its rotting corpse decaying into salt off the coast of Daggerford. Faced with a monumental power vacuum, will they be able to uphold the fragile truce between the divine planes ⸺ or will their efforts ignite an all-out war?

The U.S. Marine Corps recently captured a Viet Cong tunnel complex in Quang Tri province near the DMZ. It is believed that they removed something from that tunnel complex, not least because Corporal Paul Lewis, the unit photographer attached to Firebase Jonas, died from an “accidental firearm discharge” two days later. That was three days ago.

Delta Green, a secret government agency dedicated to protecting the U.S. from the unnatural, sends in a team of agents to investigate and stop the outbreak.

They are the Coal Squad. Their latest mission is stop Mari Lwyd from destroying the kingdom! The Welsh spirit has become incredibly powerful and is drinking all of the booze. Without booze, the workers won't make enough presents in time for Christmas. Can the squad save the holiday?

Eight years ago, the miners found something deep in the rock of an isolated rimworld. The anomaly granted some of them strange and horrifying powers. They overthrew the Sharpe Mining Corporation and claimed the mine for their own. In time, they converted it into a temple to a strange new creed. The Board of Directors has tired of these expenses and approved one final attempt to retrieve the object before they flatten both the mine and the neighboring company town of Sable with an orbital bombardment to constrain the spread of this cult.

When the freelancers touch down, they get to know the sorry souls stuck in the town, infiltrate the cult's sanctum filled with fanatical miner warriors and terrifying beasts, and learn why the locals whisper that these fanatics have... abilities considered unnatural.
