Siobhán Keane is a passionate pianist, a keen scuba diver and a woman who has a huge commitment to education. A primary school teacher in Dublin for more than twenty years, Siobhán can remember the early days of her career when she had so much energy and enthusiasm that, when she came home from work, she would sit down and play the piano for four hours. Just for fun! In April 1994, Siobhán was cycling alongside a truck when the driver omitted to signal his intention to turn left and Siobhán ended up under its wheels. She sustained a spinal injury and was left without any feeling or movement in her legs. After a spell in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire, she returned to her job teaching in a primary school in Dublin's north inner city, and has since moved to the primary school attached to the CRC. She adores playing Bach (which doesn't require the use of the piano pedals) and she also loves singing with the Dublin Bach Singers, who are rehearsing for an Easter concert. She is also currently pursuing a doctorate in education. The solo piano music in the programme is played by Siobhán and in a duet she is joined by Danusia Oslizlok.

In the first programme, Dr. Austin O'Carroll tells his story. Austin is a medical doctor who is a survivor of thalidomide. He persevered in his chosen career path despite being told initially that his disability would rule him out. He has firsthand experience of the problems facing those marginalised by homelessness and addiction. Since taking over a practice in Dublin's inner city in 1997, he has become increasingly involved in developing medical services for the homeless, not only in Dublin, but also in other major cities like Cork and Galway.
