Jack Viertel will take part in The Stars and Stripes Shaded Green, a series of public readings exploring Irish American theatre at Druid - Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, was released in cinemas in November 1942, 80 years ago this month - Nutcracker Sweeties by Ballet Ireland, an Irish twist on The Nutcracker.

Tchaikovsky’s Christmas ballet The Nutcracker has been a seasonal favourite since the mid-20th century, and this year, Ballet Ireland are bringing an Irish twist to the 130-year-old tale. Nutcracker Sweeties follows the story of Ciara and her brother Fionn who wander off from their parents in a Dublin Department store while out Christmas shopping.

A producer, a dramaturg, a librettist, Jack Viertel will join Druid’s artistic director Garry Hynes in Galway this Sunday, as part of a series of public readings, that will explore plays written by Irish Americans and about Irish Americans called The Stars and Stripes Shaded Green.

Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, was released in cinemas in November 1942, 80 years ago this month. Despite being a relatively modest performer at the box office when it opened, as time went by, it became an inarguable classic, with almost every line of dialog becoming quotable.
