Leila confides in Mr. Wall and Winnie that she doesn’t like her new glasses! Neither he nor Winnie have eyes themselves, so they see differently –not like Leila. As she describes what she can see now, the colours, the raindrops, the cobwebs, she realises she likes her glasses after all!

Leila’s dad is going away to work, and Leila is sad because she’ll miss him. Then Mr. Wall explains that every cell in her body has a tiny instruction book to tell it what to do, it’s called DNA, and she got it from her dad. So in a way, he’s with her all the time. He’s not so far away at all!

Robin is going away and doesn’t want to. Finchy tells him all about migrating – he doesn’t do it, but his cousin Derek loves it. Warm sunshine, new tastes, new smells, and a trip on an airplane? Robin begins to get excited. Going away doesn’t sound so bad after all.

Tobi speaks Yoruba at home, he tells Mr. Wall that his Dad is learning English but makes funny mistakes. Turns out Mr. Wall speaks Yoruba. He speaks so many languages – Human, Spider, Ladybird, Bee. Tobi learns that all creatures talk to each other in many different ways. And maybe he can even learn to understand Dog!

Mercy is moving and will be getting her own room. But she’s nervous, because she likes sharing with her mum and dad. A chat with Finchy helps. They talk about growing out of your old nest and building a new one. Mercy feels better, and then Finchy even says he can visit!

Leila’s mum works nights, so Leila, her brother, and her dad are going to the library so her mum can sleep. Sammy and Itsy-bitsy sleep during the day too, but today they keep waking each other up! Luckily, the lullaby Leila sings to put her brother to sleep, works on all nocturnal creatures.

Tobi has a funny feeling in his tummy. He’s not hungry, or thirsty. Mr. Wall thinks it might be a Worry, and he knows exactly how Tobi can shrink it to make it small enough to pop under the big grey stone with all the other worries. Tobi does, and feels all better!
