  • Urgency Isn't the Desired State
Since relaunching my daily content in early December, I’ve been scrambling each day to get the work done for tomorrow’s publishing (and sometimes even the same day).
And I’ve quickly expanded my content to be in more formats (blog, images, videos, podcast, video snippets) and to be in more platforms (RussBits.com, podcast, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Medium). On top of a full-time job, a lovely wife, and two little munchkins (both under 4 years old), the daily demands are at their limit.
But lest you think I’m a sensible man, I’m resolved to add more work to the pile for the next few months. But I hope I’m not as dumb as I look, there’s a method to this madness.

  • How To Make Time
If you have young kids, this is for you. And if you don’t have kids, you should read this too.
Trying to do something important on the side is hard, and especially hard for parents. If you put it on hold and get through the early years, I highly recommend it. But if it’s burning inside, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.

  • Veronica Montes - Rumble Life #1
I'm excited to bring you the first episode in a new series called The Rumble Life Interviews. My mission here is to bring you conversations that will give you some tools, insights, and maybe even a little inspiration to help you make a difference in your own life.
My first guess is Veronica Montes, a stay-at-home mom with three beautiful children.
Pregnant with twins, she lost her daughter at 20 weeks. Then her son was born premature at 26-weeks, weighing just 2 pounds. Shaken by a bleak outlook for son, she charged, "I refuse to let this be my son's outcome. There has to be something that I can do to make sure that he has the best possible life." This was the start of her journey deep into nutrition and the mind-body-soul connection.
    Show notes
Emotional eating and how she spent her teens being overweight
Her struggle with depression and how she has been able to overcome it.
The book that changed her life: Heal Your Body by, Louise Hay
Her recipe for Superfood Grain-Free Tortillas (I promised to make these, but haven't done it)

  • 2 Reminders About Impatience
I'm reminding myself that it's a mess at first. I'm also reminding myself to be careful biting off more than I can chew. In both cases, impatience is at the root of my follies. Good things take time, and the time will come.

  • Get Out Of Your Way
I was nervous before recording a podcast interview. This is my self-talk about shifting the focus off myself as a strategy for calming the nerves, and as a means to doing my best work.

  • The Key Ingredient for Progress
It’s natural to focus on differences. It’s a survival instinct. We look for the thing that doesn’t fit because it could mean danger. And when people believe different things than we do, think differently, act differently, have a different perspective, then our animal instincts kick in and we fight to defend our narrow little world like our lives depend on it.
But in one of the many great paradoxes of the universe, our lives depend on the opposite. They depend on us seeing how much we’re all alike. That deep, deep down we all want the same things and fear the same things. And that we’re all doing our best while foolishly believing the faulty narratives in our heads.
Once we see how close we really are, then there’s a chance. A chance we can appreciate each other’s world. A chance we can step outside ourselves and see our own flaws. A chance we can learn from each other. It’s from this openness that all the great progress of our time was born. But even more, it’s the place where we can truly find joy.

  • Don't Beat Yourself Up
The climb is important. Progress equals happiness (Tony Robbins). We're built to do and become more. But it's as important to be able to appreciate what you have now. To be proud of how far you've already gotten. Because you can't be happy now, you won't be happy on the peak either.
