Today we are ruminating on John 17:15-17.
When Jesus prays for the people that follow Him, we ought to take notice. When He prays that His disciples would not be taken out of the world but would be protected while they are in the world, He meant it!
Historically Christians have withdrawn from the world socially and in other ways or have compromised with the world in order to relieve themselves from some of the animosity and exclusion that comes.
Some Christians tend to withdraw from a disagreeable and dangerous environment while others prefer to blend into it and just kind of go along to get along.
Jesus’ prayer and desire for His followers, however, is that they should remain loyal to God while continuing to be IN the world.
One Bible commentator said this: “Christians must not take themselves out of the world but remain in meaningful contact with it, trusting in God’s protection while they witness for Jesus.”
