  • Nothing is impossible - unless you believe it to be
Welcome to this week’s edition of Run Talk SA with myself, David Katz, Mr Active and I’ve got a really interesting guest on today and it’s not necessarily running specific, but the whole part of running and running these crazy ultras we do in SA, it’s all in your head, it’s all about motivation and just to give you a little bit of a background into our guest this week.

If you look at the background into his book, it says this is the story of how a skinny kid from Kenilworth in Cape Town managed to travel halfway around the world without sponsorship and then outwit, outsmart and outperform the world’s best paid professional athletes on a day that changed his life and the sport of big wave surfing forever. If you haven’t cottoned on yet, it is Chris Bertish who we’re speaking to today. Read more...

  • Arnaud Malherbe on the revival of South African athletics
Welcome to this week’s edition of the Run Talk SA podcast, I’m David Katz, Mr Active. I’m very delighted to welcome someone onto the podcast today who is a former South African record holder in the 400m. His personal best time 44:59, he was the first South African to break the 45 second barrier in the 400m. He also held the National Championship four consecutive times between 1996 and 1999 in the 400m. It’s none other than Arnaud Malherbe.

You still know the name, we used to see him running back in the 90s at all these World Championships but we now hear his voice on commentary. Arnaud, let’s get straight to it, I bumped into you last at the Comrades Marathon this year. I really want to look at athletes and a bit into sprinting, but Comrades, what a Comrades it was in 2015. To have a South African double and one two in the women’s race, there was some phenomenal running by our athletes. Read more

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Run Talk SA podcast, I’m David Katz, Mr Active and winter really bit in South Africa, especially up on the Highveld in the beginning of June. It had to come at some point and it has arrived. So we looked a couple of weeks ago at what you can be doing in winter in terms of training. What you should be looking out for to avoid getting sick. This week we’ve got Ian Craig joining us, he’s a functional sports nutritionist and we’re going to really dissect what to look at when it comes to diet. Ian, thanks very much for joining us. • Why Compression gear should be in your running wardrobe
Welcome to this week’s edition of Run Talk SA, I’m David Katz, Mr Active. I can’t believe that it’s already just over a week since the 90th edition of the Comrades Marathon. I’m sure there are a lot of sore runners still out there. One aspect to look at after any race, let alone Comrades, is recovery and after training sessions and how important that recovery aspect is. One way that you can look at aiding your recovery, not only while you’re training, but also after the fact is with the use of compression gear. It really is an industry that has exploded over the last few years in South Africa and we’re joined today by Adriaan Diederichs from Babcock Health. They’re the distributors of Sigvaris, a Swiss based compression gear company here in South Africa. Adriaan, thanks for joining, just first of all, how did you get into the compression gear market?
