  • Care, conversation, & loads of bananas

    In this episode:

An Ultra Runner's Story" - After running for over 9 hours in her first ultramarathon, Julie finds herself in the medical area, unable to move her fingers or feel her face.

A compassionate medical volunteer helps feed her bananas and keeps her company while she recovers. Through their conversation, they discover a shared connection to Syracuse New York, and running for loved ones affected by cancer.

Despite missing her friend Felicia's finish, Julie eventually regains her strength, changes into dry clothes, and makes her way to the electric finish line area, where she experiences the profound joy of being among fellow finishers.

  • Are you still running?

If you’re joining us for the first time— Welcome. We’re so glad you’re here. Feel free to start at the beginning of the story: HERE to catch up.

We begin today's episode with part 6th of the JFK 50-mile race...

The gurgle in my stomach intensified, and the raw blisters on my feet throbbed with each step. Are you still running?

My coach's voice echoed in my mind: "It comes in waves."

His wisdom always steadied me, even now when my body screamed to stop...

Listen in for the rest of the story.

We have one more write together scheduled for this Monday 12/23 at 11 am (EST) and I’ll see if I can get a sub for 12/30 if not I’ll see you back in our Zoom room on 1/6/25.

  • We beat the train...

Part 4 of the JEFK 50 miler story continues...

I forgot to mention that a train crosses the course in the middle of the race. Yeah right, you’re kidding? That’s exactly what I said.

I first heard about the train in the book: The Longest Race by Ed Ayres. It must be a joke. There’s no way the train still passes through.

I reflect on overcoming self-doubt and "mom guilt" to pursue a 50-mile ultramarathon, proving that with support and proper training, ambitious goals are achievable regardless of life's responsibilities.
