Following on from the horrific murder of Ashling Murphy, and the massive outpouring of anger, we look at an article by Jess Spear and Diana O'Dwyer discussing how we can end the pandemic of male violence against women.

This week Diarmuid and Dave sat down with socialist activist and PBP member Seán Mitchell to discuss what place elections and parliaments have in socialist strategy for today.

A special episode this week where Cian gets to sit down with Meg Morrigan and Kiran Emrich to discuss and debate the Netflix sensation Don't Look Up. The panel debate if this is this an excellent film, inspired by Bertolt Brecht and dialectical materialism? Or is it just an overly-long, over-the-top, hard to watch non-comedy?
Meg is a socialist activist with a background in film and theatre and wrote a positive review of the film for 'Reform & Revolution', a US sister publication to Rupture. However Kiran, PBP activist from Galway, is not so convinced by the film, leading to some interesting exchanges.
Check out Meg's review here: https://reformandrevolution.org/2021/12/27/how-not-to-save-the-world-dont-look-up-tells-it-how-it-is/

"There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen" as Lenin said. Well, there's also years that feel like a lifetime, and 2021 was one. In an act of collective therapy, we have an in-person panel discussion reviewing the year and more generally looking over lessons we can draw from the past 21 months of Covid.
Paul Murphy drops in once more, and we are also joined by special guest Conor Reddy. We talk about the changing world of Irish politics, the never-ending nightmare of Covid and the first throws of the 'Great Bo Burnham Faction Fight of 2022' are recorded for posterity. We also cast our eyes forward to what next year can hold, challenges and opportunities for the left, and we even give some Christmas present ideas for the red in your bed (or otherwise in your life).
Thanks to Connolly Books for letting us record in their bookshop in Temple Bar, we hope to be back in the future for full live shows.

This week our panel is joined from beautiful Barcelona by eco-socialist in exile Saoirse McHugh. We swap stories about lessons from Spanish city planning before diving in to real talk about peat extraction, FF & FG's political theatre of pretending to care about small farmers and the Covid fourth wave. An impromptu debate on the slogan of system change, and the strengths and weaknesses of boycotts sparks some interesting questions for future episodes and ideas for raging polemics.
One issue we never got to discuss was this shocking story of the Irish judicial system completely failing to take violence against women seriously - content warning, the article contains information of sexual assault: https://www.thejournal.ie/sexual-assault-3-5605157-Nov2021

Diarmuid and Michael return to welcome back Corner Späti's own Ciarán Dold to the podcast. Ciarán joins us again to discuss the recent events in Berlin in relation to a September referendum in which over 1 million Berliners voted to socialise near two hundred forty thousand apartments in the German capital. Ciarán also gives a sense of how this referendum came about, what it means, and what the political scene is like in Berlin.
You can usually catch Ciarán on the Corner Späti podcast which can be found here and on all good podcast providers.
Listen to our previous episode with Ciarán and Rob from Corner Späti here!
That a with the two dots is really annoying to type. I wonder do they have to copy paste it all the time or do German keyboards have it built in.

This bank holiday weekend we take a break and re-run one of our favourite interviews, discussing ecosocialism with Jess Spear and John Moluneux. With the major Cop 26 climate conference coming up, and protests across the country and globe on November 6th, we thought this was a good time to revisit some of these issues.
For info on the Cop26 demos in Ireland check out: https://www.facebook.com/COP26CoalitionIreland

This week, Cian chats to Des Hennelly to review Budget 2022, digging beneath the government's spin in areas including contraception, inflation, ICU/hospital beds, housing and public transport to uncover how its responses to these issues remains utterly inadequate. Cian and Des also discuss the ecosocialist proposals put forward by People Before Profit in its alternative budget, outlining what needs to be done to tackle these crises.
