We're back! This week, Diarmuid sits down with researchers Patrick Brodie and Patrick Bresnihan to talk about their article on data centres which appeared in issue one of our sister magazine, Rupture. Last week, bus Drivers rejected proposals jointly agreed by the transport unions and Dublin Bus by a margin of nearly 98%. These proposals would have dramatically altered their working conditions for the worse and would have led to further precarity in the sector.
Public Transport is a massive issue at the moment when it comes to climate change and the need to transform society in an ecosocialist direction.
However, instead of prioritising a just transition for workers employers continue to drive down working conditions and move towards further privatisation.
This week Diarmuid sits down with Bus Driver and SIPTU member Owen McCormack to discuss this dispute and its implications.

In June, the Swedish Left Party withdrew its 'toleration' of the sitting Social Democrat-Green government, pulling it down and defeating its proposal to remove rent controls and introduce marketised rents. This week, Cian sits down with Marco Jamil Espvall, editor of Internationalen, the Swedish newspaper of the Fourth International, to discuss the 'Swedish model' and the relevance of the Left Party's move to broader debates on how socialist parties should relate to soft-left governments.

Since the 1970s, financial markets and corporations have increasingly enjoyed an unparalleled dominance in the housing sector internationally. This week, Michael sits down with Des Hennelly to talk about his article in the latest issue of Rupture on the commodification and financialisation of housing in Ireland. They discuss how successive Irish governments have driven the financialisation of housing ever deeper, and the task of socialists to work within housing movements to demand mass public housing programmes which begin the process of decommodifying the housing market and ensuring secure and affordable homes for all.

This week, Nicole joins socialist feminist activist Emma Hendrick to discuss the tasks of the women's movement in Ireland today, the limitations of the MoreMná campaign and liberal approaches calling for more involvement of women in politics which ignore the role of class and exclude working-class, Traveller, migrant and trans women, and the impact of Covid on women already burdened with the pressures of unpaid domestic labour.

Earlier this month, Cuba witnessed anti-government protests in various towns and cities which in turn sparked large counter-protests to 'Defend the Revolution'. This week we are joined by Jorge Martin of the International Marxist Tendency and Rupture regular Sami Mac Máistir to discuss the nature of the protests, the impact of the blockade of Cuba by US imperialism, and what role socialists outside of Cuba can play.
