I share my story with sexual assault. I experienced assault several times in my life starting from a very young age. I'm opening up about rape that I experienced my freshman year of college that took my virginity and left me incredibly traumatized and wounded. I talk about how that manifested in my own life as well as the very real fact that at no point are we exempt from sexual assault. This season has been triggering for me due to a recent-very unexpected encounter I had with assault while preparing for this season some months ago. I'm here to share others stories including mine and remind others to set up boundaries and establish rules for yourself in order to ensure safety and protect yourself. And remind you all that nobody is alone, shame is crappy and false because there's nothing YOU did to inflict this assault, and "boys will be boys" is a phrase that frankly needs to be thrown in the trash. There's no excuse, no exception, ever. No means no. And we need to put the word "consensual" in our own dictionary. Because at any point, at any time you can say no.
