Our standing before God as believers is not dependent upon our performance.  Titus 3:5 - “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.”
 Romans 8:1 - “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
 Ephesians 4:1 - Reference to Paul identifying himself as a prisoner of the Lord.
