Proteas T20 captain Quinton de Kock has lauded his teammates for their great all-round performance having come back to level their three-match T20 International series against India one-all. Given no chance at all against India captain Virat Kohli and his team, South Africa on Sunday crushed India by nine wickets and an Over to spare forcing a share of the spoils after their first T20 was abandoned without a ball bowled. De Kock, who scored his third consecutive half-century for the Proteas, second of the T20 series, believes that his team worked hard to earn the triumph.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his team will never play javelin football to win matches. He was referring to teams that win matches on throw ins and set pieces. Sundowns beat Maritzburg United 2-1 in a league match in Atteridgeville on Saturday. The Brazilians conceded a goal through a set piece scored by defender Siyanda Xulu.

Highlands Park head coach Owen Da Gama says his side’s good form in the Absa Premiership and the MTN 8 is efforts of a great team work. Da Gama brought with him some members of his technical team assistant coach Victor Tshabalala and Biokineticist Conley Simone to the post match mix-zone in Polokwane yesterday. After beating Baroka FC 2-1 at home Highlands are placed eighth on the log with eight points from five encounters. Da Gama says the results on the pitch are a result of a collective effort.

Highlands Park midfielder come throw-in specialist Ryan Rae was wearing gloves in their victory over Baroka FC and coach Owen Da Gama laughingly says the gloves have no special powers but assist the player in wet conditions.

New AmaZulu coach Jozef Vukuzic has a massive job on his hands to turn around the fortunes of a club that has won just four football matches in the entire 2019. They not only have made a poor start to the new term, but ended last season woefully as well. The new coach admits he has a big job on his hands, but says that he is relishing the challenge that lay ahead.

AmaZulu captain Mbongeni Gumede says the entire squad is fully behind new coach Jozef Vukuzic, adding that all the players were desperate to make a good impression with a positive result against Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday. Usuthu are bottom of the Absa Premiership and in some deep early season trouble after failure to win any of their first five matches. The poor start has cost Cavin Johnson his job with Slovakian Vukuzic named as his replacement last week. Gumede supports the new mentor.

Onismor Bhasera’s first half red card proved costly for Supersport United in their 3-1 loss away to Polokwane City this past weekend. Bhasera was shown his marching orders for what was regarded as a crude tackle on Sibusiso Hlubi, though the Polokwane player seemed to have been the one to step on the Zimbabwean left-back. United coach Kaitano Tembo calls it a dubious decision that should have gone the other way around.

Polokwane City coach Zlatko Krmpotic says his players need to come down from the high of being at the top of the Absa Premiership table over the weekend. City netted three times against a ten man SuperSport United who responded just once to rise to the summit with 13 points from six matches. Krmpotic says he needs calm heads and hard work moving forward.

Rising South African tennis star Khololwami Montsi continued his rapid rise in the game, with another wonderful performance at a junior ITF competition on Sunday. Montsi won his second tournament in as many weeks, this time his first Grade A tournament, as he lifted the trophy at the Samaai Junior Open at the Kelvin Grove club in Cape Town, beating Frenchman Terrence Atmane 7-5, 6-1 in the final.

Cape Town City and Golden Arrows had to be happy to share a point a piece as they drew 1-1 at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday. Kermit Erasmus scored his fourth goal of the season to give City the lead midway through the second half, but Arrows were able to equalize via a late penalty from substitute Knox Mutizwa. Having taken the lead, City coach Benni McCarthy says he is not happy they were not able to close the game up, and he says there is still a lot of work to be done.
