Cape Town City and Golden Arrows had to be happy to share a point a piece as they drew 1-1 at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday. Kermit Erasmus scored his fourth goal of the season to give City the lead midway through the second half, but Arrows were able to equalize via a late penalty from substitute Knox Mutizwa. Arrows coach Steve Komphela says that while both teams could have won the game, he is content with the point.

Highlands Park made it two out of two Absa Premiership wins when they defeated Baroka FC 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday. Peter Shalulile scored a brace in the second half opening in the 64th minute and closing nine minutes later. The visitors dominated the first half with shots from Shalulile and Mthobi Mvala, but those were only attempts. Baroka‘s consolation came from a Collins Makgaka free kick in the 77th minute. Highlands coach Owen Da Gama says this was not a lucky victory.

University of Pretoria suffered their first loss of the season in five matches after being outplayed by Uthongathi at the Tuks stadium in Pretoria on Sunday. Uthongathi are fourth on the log with eight points so far and head coach Zipho Dlangalala was nevertheless encouraged by his side’s performance.

Uthongathi FC continued with their fine start into the new season when they beat University of Pretoria 1-0 on Sunday in a Glad Africa Championship game played at the Tuks stadium in Pretoria. Menzi Ndwandwe scored the only goal of the game in the first half and they held on till the end. The Cane Cutters moved to the third spot with this win as they maintained a 100% winning record in the three matches played so far. Uthongathi head coach Johnny Ferreira was honest enough to say they were lucky to win the game after the AmaTuks missed some scoring chances in the second half.

The 14th edition of the National Indigenous Games (IG) was launched with a colourful street parade and dance group performances in Seshego outside Polokwane on Saturday. Nine provinces will compete in nine indigenous codes including Ncuva, Morabaraba, Kgati, Diketo and Juskei from tomorrow until Friday 27 September. Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Acting Director General Sumayya Khan says they want the community of Seshego to be the biggest beneficiaries of the week-long event.

New AmaZulu coach Jozef Vukuzic has not been given any specific mandates for the new season. Instead the club want him to prove that the players he has at his disposal are good enough to cut it at Absa Premiership level and silence those doubters that believe Usuthu do not have a squad that is capable at the top level. This is according to the General Manager of the Durban club, Lunga Sokhela.

Orlando Pirates interim coach Rhulani Mokwena called the display by side a gallant one when they lost 4-3 to Bidvest Wits at Moses Mabhida stadium on Saturday. He also hailed the fighting spirit that was on show by his players, who fought hard on their way to their second loss of the season. The result also left them 10th on the table, but it was the performance that interested Mokwena more.

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt bemoaned the fact that his team had to travel to Durban to play Orlando Pirates in their home match, even though the Students managed to secure a thrilling Absa Premiership win at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Toyota Cheetahs kick-off their 2019/2020 Guinness PRO 14 Campaign this week, when they host Scottish side Glasgow Warriors in Bloemfontein on Friday evening. Cheetahs scrum-half Ruan Pienaar will captain the side during the Pro 14 campaign. The 35-year old had an impressive display in the Currie Cup earlier this month after helping the Free State side win the trophy. Pienaar believes the Currie Cup was good preparation for the Pro 14 campaign.

Springboks captain Siya Kolisi believes that New Zealand deservedly won their 2019 Rugby World Cup opening clash instead of South Africa losing the Pool B humdinger. The All Blacks landed their first devastating blow of the campaign with a clinical 23-13 victory over the most in form side in Japan by feeding off their mistakes. Kolisi complemented New Zealand for out-performing them on the day.
