Veteran football administrator, club owner and head coach Jomo Sono says the new sponsor of the National First Division (NFD) will help to improve a lot of things in this division. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman Irvin Khoza last week introduced Glad Africa Group as the new sponsors of the NFD for the next five years. The second tier of South African football had spent over a decade without a main sponsor. Sono’s Jomo Cosmos has spent some time in this division during this period and he tells SABC Sport journalist Velile Mnyandu that this could help to finally bring some much needed television coverage to the NFD.

Eight year-old Minentle Miya from Khutsong on Gauteng’s West Rest, will represent South Africa in the 2019 World Cadet U-8, U-10 and U-12 Chess Championships to be held in the city of Weifang, Shandong, China late this month. The tournament will get underway on the 20th of August till the 2nd of September. Miya’s coach Israel Tshabadirha says that they are excited about representing the Country.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) Technical Committee Chairperson Jack Maluleke has distanced himself from reports that Golden Arrows head coach Steve Komphela is a favourite for the Bafana Bafana vacant job. As soon as Stuart Baxter announced his resignation as a Bafana coach last Friday, Maluleke was quoted as giving credence to reports that Komphela is a favourite for this job. But speaking after technical committee meeting on Saturday, Maluleke set the recording straight on this issue.
