Former Proteas fast bowler Mfuneko Ngam is happy after he was appointed as Border senior team coach for the 2019/20 season. Ngam has since vacated his position as Warriors assistant coach and he believes that he deserves to be head coach after spending nine years in charge at the Fort Hare Academy in Alice. The 40-year-old Ngam is going to prepare Border for the Africa T20 Cup, which starts next month.

Black Leopards midfielder Thabo Matlaba says he is not scared to step up and lead the side on a long term basis. Matlaba, who signed in pre-season was given the armband on debut against provincial rivals Polokwane City in their first match of the 2019/20 Absa premiership season on Sunday.

Former Amajimbos and Amajita full back Bongane ‘Chappies’ Mathabela will be hoping to play his first ever Absa Premiership game on Saturday when Stellenbosch take on Cape Town City in a local derby at the Cape Town Stadium. Mathabela, who turns 23 today (Monday), says he draws inspiration from his close childhood friend, Percy Tau who made a goal-scoring debut for Club Brugge in Belgium last week.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has called for a goal line technology to be introduced in the Absa Premiership. Sundowns beat Supersport United in a league match 2-0 courtesy of goals from Sibusiso Vilakazi and Themba Zwane over the weekend. Vilakazi's goal in the first half goal hit the upright and went in but it took a while for a referee to award it until one of his assistant referees gave it a green light.

Maritzburg United were not overwhelmed in anyway and showed positive signs in both attack and defence when they lost 1 - 0 to Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal derby in Clermont on Sunday afternoon. Maritzburg coach Eric Tinkler says they had enough to build on heading to their next game against Highlands Park on Friday.

An opportunistic debut goal by Michael Gumede helped Lamontville Golden Arrows begin the new Absa Premiership season with a battling 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United in the KwaZulu-Natal derby in Clermont on Sunday afternoon. The result handed Coach Steve Komphela a winning start and he was predictably happy afterwards.

The next Bafana Bafana head coach is most likely going to be a local coach judging by the resolutions of the of the SAFA Technical Committee meeting this past weekend. Following the resignation of Stuart Baxter, the committee led by SAFA Council member Jack Maluleke met at the local football mother body’s headquarters to review the reports of various national teams which campaigned in international tournaments in the past three months. Maluleke says they’ve appointed a four-member task team which will recommend the name of the new coach.

Former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane says he would like to help find a suitable permanent coach for the national team given the opportunity. Mosimane has been on record saying that he believes that local coaches such as Gavin Hunt, Benni McCarthy and Steve Komphela are capable of coaching the team.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has ruled out the possibility of returning to Bafana Bafana for a second spell. This after Stuart Baxter resigned as a national team coach last week to leave the Bafana coaching post vacant. Mosimane’s name has been linked a possible replacement for the departed Englishman. He says he is happily contracted at Sundowns.

Orlando Pirates opened their Absa Premiership account with a convincing 3-1 victory over a young but spirited Bloemfontein Celtic side at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night. Coach Milutin Sredojevic says the plan is to bring back the glory days and collect as many points as possible in front of their home supporters.
