The Premier Soccer League’s reserve league is set for a revamp as it heads into its sixth edition next season. During a press conference held at the PSL headquarters, Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza confirmed that from next season, the face-lifted version will see 30 rounds of fixtures in which each team gets to play one another in a 'home' and 'away' format, allowing for more action and exposure for the young players coming through.

Kaizer Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung says he is still traumatised by the embarrassing defeat they suffered against TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final few weeks ago. Chiefs lost 1-0 to the National First Division (NFD) team to end the season without silverware. Motaung has also dismissed rumours that he is no longer running the club.

Mamelodi Sundowns star attacker Phakamani Mahlambi’s hopes of going to the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt next month have been dashed! He has been kicked out of the Bafana Bafana camp for the COSAFA Cup in Durban on disciplinary grounds. It is alleged that the 21-year-old arrived in the camp on Sunday evening under the influence and the technical stuff has since resolved to release him from the camp as they aim to lay down the law. Mahlambi has been part of this national U23 dominated squad that will play its first game against Botswana in KwaMashu on Sunday. It’s believed that he will be replaced by Cape Town City flying winger Gift Links. Earlier this week, Bafana COSAFA Cup coach David Notoane tried to downplay this issue.

The 2019 Cricket World Cup takes off today and anticipation has hit an all-time high as South Africa kicks off their campaign against the host nation England at The Oval today (Thursday, 30 May 2019). There could be no better standard for the Proteas to measure themselves against than Eoin Morgan’s England who start the tournament ranked number one in ODI cricket. Coach Steve Komphela is saddened by the fact that his former Kaizer Chiefs missed out on the top eight this past season. The Soweto giants suffered their worst finish in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era when the 2018/19 season concluded earlier this month. In fact their 39 points from 30 Absa Premiership games was their poorest total since 1985 – a span of 34 years. All this happened in the first full campaign since the departure of Komphela, who departed Naturena at the end of 2017/18. The ex-coach says he is pained by the state of affairs at Chiefs.
