Maritzburg United striker Judas Moseamedi is happy that the club can depend on him in their quest to stay in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). The Kwa Zulu Natal based side are battling for survival in the ongoing promotion/relegation playoffs against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Royal Eagles. Moseamedi has been an instrumental part of Eric Tinkler’s team since his arrival on loan from Cape Town City in January. He was also on the score sheet in his side’s 2-0 win over TTM in Thohoyandou on Wednesday (22 May 2019).

United have scored three goals and kept two clean sheets in as many play-offs matches. Tinkler says now they will watch the clash between TTM and Royal Eagles on Saturday which will dictate what to do in their penultimate encounter.

Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane says the Spar Proteas Netball National Team is better than Bafana Bafana in terms of rankings. The Netball team is currently ranked fifth in the world, while Bafana are ranked 14th on the continent and 73rd in the world. Molokwane said this when Netball SA announced a strong team to represent the country at the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool, England, in July.

The PSL side sits in first position on the play-offs log with six points from two matches. TTM are at the bottom of the play-offs table pointless in two outings. The Vhembe based side is not completely out of contention for promotion with two games still left to play. TTM coach Momcilo Medic says Maritzburg showed why they are in the Premier division. The wining coach Eric Tinkler says the victory was well deserved.

Black South African tennis players remain elusive at the highest level. Apart from Lucas Sithole and Kgothatso Montjane, both involved in the disabled sector of the sport, there remains a big question over the growth of it at a professional level. That is one of the reasons Tennis South Africa is driving hard to try and produce a player that can break the barriers at the highest level. TSA recently launched a fourth development centre countrywide, a sign that the game is starting to make new inroads into the previously disadvantaged communities. The organisation’s development manager Mpho Makhoba believes things are starting to look more positive.
