Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler says he is not going to entertain any national team requests for the COSAFA Cup as he needs all his players in the PSL promotion playoffs. The side will now battle it out with National First Division sides Royal Eagles and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in the playoffs for the last spot in the PSL. The mini league starts on Wednesday, 15 May 2019 and ends on the 1st of June.

Former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael says he has already sent message of support to the Bethlehem outfit. Stars were automatically relegated from the PSL to the National First Division on Saturday (11 May 2019) after they lost 1-0 against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Goble Park Stadium. This saw Sundowns defending their Absa Premiership league title successfully. The Belgian international coached Stars from August 2017 to November 2018 and says life will go on after relegation.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has criticised the reports that Quinton Fortune could be brought in as a second assistant coach to Stuart Baxter for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. SA under-17 coach Molefi Ntseki is Baxter’s only Assistant Coach at the moment. Former Bafana Bafana player Fortune has worked with Baxter before at SAFA.

While the 2018-2019 South African football season comes to an end this weekend with the Nedbank Cup final, there will be no holidays for some players who will switch their focus to international football for the next month or so. Two players from Cape Town City who are expected to represent their countries later this month (May 2019) at the COSAFA Senior Men’s Challenge Cup are City’s captain Thamsanqa Mkhize and their Mozambican international Edmilson Dove.

Gavin Hunt described Bidvest Wits’ season as disappointing despite ending the 2018/19 term with victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in KwaMashu on the final day of action on Sunday (12 May 2019). The Students rounded off their season with a 1-0 triumph at the Princess Magogo Stadium, where the only goal was scored by Frank Mhango after 46 minutes. The result meant that Wits finished the campaign in third position behind champions Mamelodi Sundown and runners up Orlando Pirates. Defeat for Arrows, meanwhile, meant that they finished the season in 10th place. It was not the ideal way for the Durbanites to end, especially after changing coaches during the Christmas-New Year break when they got rid of Clinton Larsen and replaced him with Steve Komphela.

Police in Limpopo have released a statement saying that they have launched a massive manhunt for a group of armed suspects involved in a business robbery which occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Apel Cross near Lebowakgomo.
