The lawyer representing the African National Congress (ANC) branches in the OR Tambo region, Mpendulo Stoyile, has defended his clients' decision not to participate in the ANC provincial elective conference in the Eastern Cape. Stoyile says a number of branches in the region have filed papers in the High Court Mthatha challenging the integrity of the regional leadership. The branches want the provincial leadership to disband the regional leadership on the grounds that some of the members and branches that elected it were bogus. Stoyile says the legitimacy of the executive is questionable.

The search for two miners still trapped underground at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine near Carletonville on Gauteng's West rand continues.
The body of the third miner was brought to surface on Monday morning. About 3 0000 mine workers were underground when a tremor caused part of the mine to collapse. Harmony Gold mine spokesperson, Lauren Fourie could not indicate how long it's going to take to find the two miners.

Pravin Gordan has been labelled as a conspiracy theorist who failed as a Minister. This is according to an open letter allegedly written by Duduzani Zuma to Gordan. In the letter, the President's son criticizes Gordan for allowing the national debt to rise from 31 percent to 51 percent under his watch. In the letter, Zuma also warns Gordan that he reserve his right pursue legal action for the harm he has inflicted on him. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it won't be drawn into political infighting between the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the United Democratic Movement (UDM) regarding the ousted deputy mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the Eastern Cape, UDM councillor Mongameli Bobani. The DA has accused Bobani of corruption and the UDM is taking the DA to court.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) says it will take the Democratic Alliance (DA) to court following the party's decision not to re-instate Mongameli Bobani as Deputy Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. The UDM had given the DA an ultimatum to re-instate Bobani by 4pm on Monday or face legal consequences. UDM leader Bantu Holomisa says his party is ready to battle it out in court.

South African women are increasingly taking the leap of faith and venturing into fields not so commonly undertaken by women.
One such a woman is the Eastern Cape’s own Phindi Kema. At the age of 35, Phindi was the first and only black person to breed thoroughbred horses commercially in South Africa.

Officials from the Western Cape Agriculture Department have begun with the culling of 140-thousand chickens on a poultry farm in the Swartland. At least 30-thousand chickens have already died due to bird flu in Paaderberg.
