Roads leading to the Roodepoort CBD have been blocked off to traffic West of Johannesburg. This follows a protest by Davidsonville residents.

Basic Education Department Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says there are not enough teachers to teach indigenous languages.

Oupa Moloto says, “ We thought at this time, the minister of education would of given schools the choice of the language that they want to use in terms of communication, but we are still far. We have not yet reached the ultimate goal of the struggles of 1976.”

Class of 76 Student, Seth Mazibuko says the question of the language of teaching is still a burning issue in South Africa.

Another student, Sipho Singiswa , who was also arrested a political prisoner for issues related to the uprising says former Model C’s language policy has not changed.
